Biopouches Coffee Pouch Capacity Calculator

This calculator gives you a quick estimate of how much coffee a pouch may hold. Choose the coffee type and pouch style, then enter the finished pouch dimensions shown in the measurement guide.
Use the dimensions of the finished pouch. Enter measurements in inches.
Do not calculate the entire pouch height as usable filling space. Leave room at the top for filling, the zipper and the final heat seal.
Click Estimate Coffee Capacity. The calculator will show an estimated pouch volume and coffee capacity in:
Two pouches can look almost identical from the outside and still hold very different amounts of coffee. Pouch shape, bottom depth, side gusset design, and the actual usable internal space all affect how much whole bean coffee or ground coffee a bag can hold. A stand-up pouch and a flat bottom pouch with the same width and height, for example, will not necessarily have the same coffee capacity, because the base construction changes how much internal volume is actually usable.
That's the core reason a coffee pouch capacity calculator is worth using before finalizing custom coffee pouches. It gives you a practical way to check whether a given pouch size and style will realistically hold your target weight, whether that's 250 g, 500 g, 12 oz, or a 1 lb coffee pouch, before you commit to dimensions with a supplier.
Why Whole Bean and Ground Coffee Behave Differently
The same pouch will not hold the same weight of whole bean coffee and ground coffee. This comes down to bulk density. Whole bean coffee has more air pockets between beans, so it takes up more volume per gram than ground coffee, which packs more tightly. Roast level, bean size, and grind size all shift bulk density further, and how the coffee settles during filling can change the final result too.
Why Headspace Cannot Be Ignored
The full outside height of a pouch is not fillable space. Room is needed for the zipper area, the top heat seal, and enough working space to fill and close the bag without spilling or straining the seal. Headspace is the allowance that accounts for this. Skipping it in your own calculations is one of the most common reasons a pouch that looks big enough on paper ends up too tight in practice.
What This Calculator Helps You Do
Using the calculator before requesting samples or placing an order helps you:
Compare pouch styles and dimensions side by side
Check whether a pouch is realistically suited to your target weight, from small formats up to a 1 lb coffee pouch
Avoid ordering coffee packaging that's needlessly oversized or too small for the product
Talk through dimensions with a packaging supplier using clearer, shared numbers
Narrow down a shortlist of pouch sizes before physical sampling and filling tests
The tool is free to use and requires no signup.
A Practical Estimate, Not a Guarantee
This calculator gives a practical preliminary estimate based on pouch dimensions, pouch geometry, and approximate coffee bulk density. It is a starting point for narrowing down coffee bag size, not a substitute for physical testing.
Recommendation: use the calculator to narrow your pouch size and style, then test that selected pouch with your actual coffee before placing your production order.
