The flat bottom format became the default for specialty coffee because of how it performs on shelf. The structured base holds the bag upright, the
5-panel print surface gives roasters room to tell their brand story, and the wide front face reads clearly at distance. We offer
one-way degassing valves to release CO₂ post-roast without letting oxygen in — critical for maintaining flavour from roast to cup. Closures include resealable zipper, tin tie, and heat seal. Materials range from kraft paper to
fully compostable PLA film certified to EN 13432 and ASTM D6400.

Flat Bottom Pouches for Snacks & Dry Goods
Snack packaging has one job beyond protecting the product:
stop the buyer at shelf. A flat bottom pouch does this better than a pillow bag or three-side seal because it stands upright, faces forward, and gives you the full front panel to work with. For snacks we use multi-layer barrier film with moisture and oxygen protection rated to your product's shelf life.
Zipper reseal is standard for chips, nuts and dried fruit. Small snack packaging from
1,000 units MOQ.

Flat Bottom Pouches for Pet Food
Pet food is one of the most demanding applications for flexible packaging. The bag needs to handle
heavy fill weights, resist puncture from kibble edges, and keep fats from oxidising on shelf. Our flat bottom pet food bags use multi-layer film with
oxygen barrier rated to your product's shelf life — typically OTR below 5 cc/m²/day for dry kibble. Zip closures are tested for repeated open-close cycles. ISO and FSC certified.

TÜV Certified · FSC Certified
Single-polymer PE or PP construction sortable at standard recycling facilities without contamination. No mixed material — actually recyclable, not just labelled recyclable.
Learn about recyclable packaging → ♻ Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR)
FSC Certified
Film made from recycled plastic waste — bottles and film scraps — reducing virgin material use without compromising barrier performance. Ideal for brands making sustainability claims without full compostability.
Learn about PCR packaging → ⬛ Standard Multi-Layer Barrier Film
ISO Certified
Conventional nylon/PE or PET/PE laminate for maximum barrier performance. Best for products needing long shelf life, high fat content, or wide temperature range. Most cost-effective for high-volume runs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum order quantity for custom flat bottom pouches?
For digital printing with soy-based ink, the MOQ is 500 units — no plate costs, multiple designs in the same run. For gravure printing (1 to 10 colours), MOQ starts from 3,000 units. Gravure requires plate setup but delivers consistent colour across high-volume production runs.
What is the difference between a flat bottom pouch and a stand-up pouch?
A stand-up pouch has a curved gusset base — it stands but leans on uneven surfaces. A flat bottom pouch has a structured rectangular base with four sealed corners, sitting completely flat and stable without support. It also gives you five printable panels vs three on a standard stand-up pouch. Compare with our stand up pouches if you need both options.
Are your flat bottom pouches certified compostable?
Yes. Our compostable flat bottom pouches are independently certified to EN 13432 (European), ASTM D6400 (US), BPI, DIN CERTCO, and OK Compost — covering both industrial and home composting. Certifications are held by BioPouches and shareable with your retail buyers or sustainability audit team on request.
What closures are available for flat bottom pouches?
Resealable zipper — most common, coffee/snacks/pet food. Tin tie — traditional for coffee and tea, repeated resealing without zip. Heat seal only — single-use samples and portion packs. Tear notch — single-serve without reseal. A one-way degassing valve can be added to any closure type — essential for freshly roasted coffee where CO₂ off-gassing continues post-pack.
What is the lead time for custom flat bottom pouches?
Custom coffee bags are available with 15-day delivery. Standard custom flat bottom pouches ship in 20–25 days from artwork approval. For urgent orders, contact us directly and we will confirm from our current production schedule.
Do you ship to the USA, UK and Australia?
Yes. BioPouches ships to the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and across Europe. We have been supplying brands in these markets since 2009. We advise on courier vs freight depending on order volume and urgency. Contact us for a shipping quote alongside your packaging quote.
Can I get a sample before placing a full order?
Yes. Free samples are available on selected flat bottom pouch formats. Available on our custom coffee bags page. For other formats, request via our quote form and specify you need a sample first.
What artwork format do you need?
Print-ready AI, PDF, or EPS with all fonts outlined and images at 300 DPI minimum. Colours in CMYK — include PMS references for Pantone spot colours. Download bag templates from our template page to ensure your design fits the correct dieline.
